World Plumbing Day – Celebrating the Trade That Keeps Society Flowing

For most people, March 11 is just another day. But for those in the plumbing industry, it’s a moment to recognise the hard work, technical expertise, regulatory responsibility, and countless emergency call-outs that keep Australia’s water and gas systems running safely.

Every year, thousands of illegal plumbing jobs are carried out across Australia by DIYers and unlicensed operators. Plumbing is highly regulated for a reason — the work plumbers do protects public health, safeguards our water supply, and ensures homes and businesses operate safely.

That’s one of the core reasons Plumbers Choice is Trade Only. We sell exclusively to licensed plumbers because the work they do matters — not just to individual households, but to the strength and safety of our entire society.

Professional plumbing systems connect buildings, neighbourhoods, and cities. They form a critical defence against waterborne diseases and public health risks, while ensuring communities have reliable access to clean water and safe sanitation. In many ways, plumbing is one of the invisible foundations of modern life — essential, yet often overlooked.

At a time when many industries are being reshaped by rapid technological change, skilled trades like plumbing remain more important than ever. The industry offers diverse and rewarding career paths that combine technical expertise, problem-solving, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in people’s everyday lives.

While plumbing may be one of the most important — and often undervalued — professions, we recognise the commitment plumbers make every day. Because of their work, we can turn on the tap, take a shower, cook in the kitchen, flush the toilet, water the garden, and trust that stormwater will flow safely away from our homes and businesses.

At Plumbers Choice, we’re proud to support this vital industry by working alongside plumbers and our manufacturing partners to continually develop innovative tools and products that help the trade perform at its best.

So this World Plumbing Day, we raise a glass to the plumbers who keep everything flowing.

The great Easter Egg Hunt!

Easter is a time that usually revolves around family, a well-earned break, and in many households a fiercely competitive Easter egg hunt. It’s also a reminder that behind every plumbing business is more than just tools and job sites. There are families, overheads, and the constant balancing act of running a profitable trade business.

That’s why Plumbers Choice has always remained proudly Trade Only. By supplying exclusively to plumbers, we help protect your margins, minimise unnecessary price competition, and ensure you’re never competing with your own supplier. Simply put, we don’t sell to your customers, because they’re your customers.

And since Easter is all about family and every plumbing business has one behind it we’ve hidden eggs throughout this catalogue for the little one’s to find. Count them up and enter the draw for your chance to win.

Simply email how many Trade Only eggs you think are hidden to marketing@plumberschoice.com.au and all the correct guesses will go into the draw to win a $200 Toyworld voucher.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving — Trade Only

Sure, you might find a cheaper price here or a closer store there, but to those suppliers, you’re just another customer. No different to Mr Jones who strolls in off the street. And remember, Mr Jones is your customer also. When suppliers sell directly to him, they are taking away any markup opportunities you may have been able to add on. Every sale they make to him is a missed opportunity for your business.

This Christmas, we’d like to celebrate all the other suppliers who’ve chosen to give back by being Trade Only, the ones who support plumbers first, not the public for the benefit of their own back pocket.

Whether it’s us, the original Trade Only plumbing supplier, or one of the many others who’ve proudly followed suit, in a season that is all about giving, give back to those that give to you and support a Trade Only supplier.

Merry Christmas!

Trade Only, the winning team to be a part of….

It’s been a tough year for many plumbers, with the slump in the building industry, interest
rate increases, spikes in DIY plumbing to save a quid, and of course, the unease around an election. But it’s now September, the footy finals are upon us, the sun is starting to shine, and it feels like the industry may be picking up.

To those of you who’ve battled through and found it tough all year, well done. With the coming months looking more optimistic for our trade, it’s starting to feel like a bit of finals fever for our own industry. To all those who have supported us, thank you. We appreciate your support for Plumbers Choice and for a trade-only industry, and we hope you appreciate our support.

We are your groundsmen, your physios, your bootstrappers, and your biggest fans – keeping you stocked with all the gear you need to get the job done, while helping build a trade-only industry that’s just for plumbers, not for the DIYers.

“Plumbers Choice’s innovative products give me more time to go fishing!” -Nat from Allthorpe Plumbing

This is the sort of feedback we love to hear at Plumbers Choice. We have long prided ourselves on bringing innovative products to the market. Tools & products that make a plumber’s life easier, save them time, or just give the job a little bit more of a professional finish.

A plumber’s time is money, whether you want to go fishing, spend more time with the kids or just knock off and get to the pub earlier, we hope some of these innovative items we have brought to the market over the years have made you realise what your time is really worth.

Future little plumbers!

Thank you to each and every future little plumber who entered our cover competition. We were overwhelmed with the number of entries received, and it’s great to see that the future of our industry is
going to be in good hands.

So many future little plumbers understand the need for a Trade Only industry; we saw entries showing DIYers blowing themselves up, plumbers losing work to builders or handymen, plumbers fixing gas leaks caused by the public. It’s extremely promising to see the future little plumbers understanding why we need a Trade Only industry and how it benefits plumbers today and future plumbers, tomorrow.

Special shoutout to our winner, 10 year old Scarlett, a future little plumber for MEK Plumbing in Victoria. Scarlett has drawn the Plumbers Choice shop, where our 25 years plus push for a Trade
Only Industry continues.

Next Generation

Next Generation

The Plumbers Choice magazine has been around for over 25 years. 192 Editions and still going strong. Over the years, we’ve converted a lot of plumbers to supporting Trade Only. We’ve seen many fathers hand over the tools to their sons, creating another generation of plumbers who want to support the industry that provides for them.

To start preparing the next generation of Trade Only plumbers we’re going to encourage them all to show their support for Trade Only and the plumbing industry by creating our next cover. So get the pencils out, grab some crayons or Photoshop up a storm and hand the magazine over to your kids to design our next cover.

Line In The Sand

Last year was tough for many plumbers.

New builds down, interest rate rises saw many people put renovations on hold or attempt DIY projects themselves to cut costs. While it may save the homeowner money, it takes away from the plumber’s livelihood and also puts the community at risk.

It’s a new year and time for a fresh start, its time to draw a line in the sand and force a Trade Only industry, an industry where only licensed plumbers can buy plumbing goods. You do the training, you put in the work, and you pay
the overheads, so only you should be able to carry out plumbing work.

Say no to DIY and merchants who support it by selling to the general public. We have been beating the drum for over 20 years now. We have seen other suppliers adopt our policy, but not enough. You the plumber are the only ones who can truly embrace it by only buying from Trade Only merchants. The stick is in your hand, it’s your time to draw the line in the sand!

Five years ago, Plumbers Choice opened its doors in Sydney. It was a huge achievement for us as a humble little Melbourne-based supplier. But more so, our expansion was the sign of an industry adopting the Trade Only mentality.

In the past five years, we have gained a huge amount of support from the New South Wales and Queensland plumbing communities. Our same day delivery for Sydney Metro and a quicker, more convenient service to rural New South Wales and Queensland has seen our Smithfield based warehouse grow by 64% over the past five years.

We would like to thank each and every plumber who has supported our Sydney team and embraced a Trade Only industry. We endeavour to expand our range, innovating an industry and provide a better service to each and every plumber Australia wide. So where next? Your state might soon see a same day delivery service just like Melbourne and Sydney.
