Have you ever had to remove a dishwasher and wondered how to temporarily cap the trap connection? Well, here is the answer...
The plastic plug from oxy acetylene bottles is a perfect fit. It fits tightly over the dishwasher nipple of the trap. No need to worry about the cupboard flooding, and the customer can still use their sink until the new dishwasher is connected. Its also a great idea if fitting off sink waste and trap and you want to pre-drill the dishwasher connection. All you need to do is put on the temporary cap, and when the dishwasher is installed the cap is easily removed.
Hope you like the idea, like I do, and I look forward to the $200.00 credit so that I can get some more of your great products from Plumbers Choice.

Maintenance Tip
Hi Luke,
Here is a tip for maintenance plumbers when servicing a toilet cistern. It may save you a call back
When replacing the small washer to the inlet valve the plastic seat is often a little rough or chipped. To save changing the whole inlet valve, sand the seat smoothly with emery cloth.
A piece of Red Back Cleaning Abrasive folded down to fit works well.
How about putting the tips of the month together at the end of the year. It would be handy to keep in the glove box of the truck.
Regards, Ian Muddle, Mr Muddle Plumbing.
Thanks Ian, You $200 voucher is on the way.

Kenny's Tip
I find most of your tips of the month pretty gammy. So I thought I might send one in of my own.
Getting those plumquicks on cast iron 100mm pipe can be difficult, especially in those tight and awkward situations. So I have a small piece of cast iron 100mm pipe that I attach to plumquicks at both ends (no hose clip) sitting in the back shed so they are nicely pre-stretched and easy to get over cast iron pipe, when they are required.
I hope my tip is a winner for the tool voucher. I told my apprentice he can have the prize if I win, as he thinks the tip of the month is bogus, and Luke only just makes it up each month whilst day dreaming in his office.

Winter
As Winter approaches in the southern states, the leaves begin to fall and block the gutters and down pipes. Plumbers are often asked to unblock the downpipe and also clean out the gutters. Normally a bucket is used to collect debris.
Standard buckets are a problem because they are prone to falling off the roof.
Andrew suggest using a Magnobucket. The bucket is designed not to fall off the roof and has a 24 litre capacity.

Ever struggled removing the flanges from basin taps?
Neil Higgins has the answer!
Neil has got himself out of a spot of bother by using a flush cone rubber.
Place the rubber over the flange then use your pipe wrench.
The rubber protects the finish on the flange and also gives excellent grip.
Thanks to Niel. You $200 credit is on the way! |
Why So Many Fibre Washers?
I asked a plumber recently why he brought so many of our fibre washers that fit into the Ezy Hookers.
The answer turned out to be a great tip for all plumbers
The plumber buys the washers to use as a gasket when the lugged elbows (19bp) are too short through the back of the cupboard.
Instead of trying to get teflon into the awkward male thread, the plumber puts a fibre washer in the female part of the 1/2 inch M and F adaptors, then simply tightens it on. He claims to have never had a leak doing it this way.
By the way the code is #9305 A bag of 20 will set you back around $9 including GST. If you wish to purchase this product click Click here .

The Answer Is So Easy
Have you ever installed a tap mixer in a laundry trough?
Well if you have, you probably have struggled getting the nut on the bottom of the tap started on the thread. The problem is that the throughs are deep in the corner position of the hole makes it almost impossible to start the nut.
The answer is so EASY. All you need to do is completely assemble the tap out of position.
Tighten the flexi hoses into the body, then tighten the thread and assemble the backing washer. Then start the nut on the threaded stud of the tap.
Now you have an assembled tap in your hand, all you need to do is put the flexi-nuts through the hole in the stainless steel through. When you get to the backing washer, just work it through one side at a time, kind of on an angle. It will pop through. Just use you mixer tap socket set as normal to tighten the already assembled nut.
Everyone I've shown loves it!
It's very simple and saves time.

Waxed Screws
Have you ever had to install polyester insulation under a steel roof?
This is the Rolls Royce of insulation. It is, however, a problem if you need to screw the roof down through the insulation.
The strands of the insulation tend to pull and end up in a big ball around the screw.
Waxed screws have the thread protected so the threads of the polyester will not grip to the screw. Whatever length or type of the screw you want we can supply.

Spray and Wipe
Have you ever had trouble peeling the plastic off a length of Colorbond spouting?
Sometimes when the sun has been on the spouting for a length of time the plastic becomes very difficult to remove. Try keeping a bottle of Spray and wipe in your car, Water has been used but just doesn't have the same effect.
